New retail district emerging to the south

While not technically Westfield, just to our south an exciting little community of shops are springing up. Just next to the Safeway you can now find everything from fine dining to knitting supplies.
The newly opened Spinster Yarns (knitting supplies), Rock Candy (a candy store with attitude), and Bediboo (children's boutique) join  such neighborhood staples as The Chameleon Cafe and The Red Canoe. And the best part of shopping at the new "Lauraville strip"? The almost constant smell of Zeke's coffee being roasted right behind these shops.

Excellent post -- thank you!

What can we do to get some of these kinds of businesses up the road to Westfield?

I'm not sure its possible right now. One thing that part of town does not have that we do is an abundance of pawn shops and store front churches. And prostitution does not seem to be an issue that far south anymore. The Beverly Hills community seems to be able to draw these types of business.

Just saying 'hi'. My wife and I bought a house on Fleetwood Ave. in March of last year. Stumbled across your blog and it's good to hear things from people who care about the neighborhood. Keep on posting!

Hi Anonymous! Welcome to the neighborhood!

With our newly elected WNIA officers, hopefully our neighborhood can be a little more proactive in getting different kinds of businesses here.

yes that has been very interesting little spot to watch lately. i think the best hope we have for our area would be the northern parkway intersection. let's wait and see what opens up since chockchai moved.
sorry i haven't posted for awhile. haven't been feeling well
